We want to make you aware of active attempts by an individual or individuals impersonating members of the RahrBSG Finance team and contacting customers regarding invoices, outstanding balances, payment status, and other financial information.
We have determined that the impersonator may have obtained information identifying companies that do business with RahrBSG and may be using that information to make their communications appear more credible. Our investigation has not identified exposure of banking information, passwords, or other customer-provided sensitive information.
In the meantime, we’re asking for your help in staying vigilant and sharing this notice with anyone in your organization who works with RahrBSG, particularly those involved in accounts payable, purchasing, or finance.
What to watch for
The fraudulent emails may look convincing. They may use the name and title of an actual RahrBSG employee, reference RahrBSG, and ask you to confirm information related to invoices, outstanding balances, payment dates, or banking information.
One known example uses a lookalike email address formatted as:
firstinitiallastname@rahr-bsg.org
This is not a RahrBSG email domain.
How to know it’s us
Legitimate RahrBSG communications will come from our established company domains:
firstinitiallastname@rahrbsg.com — RahrBSG U.S.
firstinitiallastname @rahrbsg.ca — RahrBSG Canada
firstinitiallastname @rahr.com — Rahr Corporation
RahrBSG will not use a different or lookalike domain to request banking changes, updated payment instructions or sensitive financial information.
If you receive an unexpected request involving invoices, outstanding balances, payment information or banking details, please:
- Check the sender’s full email address, not just the display name.
- Do not provide financial or banking information in response to an unfamiliar or suspicious email.
- Do not act on changes to RahrBSG banking or payment instructions without independently verifying the request with your established RahrBSG contact.
- RahrBSG’s bank and and account number have not changed.
- If something doesn’t look right, contact your RahrBSG Sales Representative, Customer Service representative or known Finance contact using the contact information you already have on file.
Example of the current impersonation attempt
From: FirstInitial Lastname firstinitiallastname@rahr-bsg.org
Subject: Status of Outstanding Payments
“Could you please confirm the status of our outstanding and due payments? Please get back to us at the earliest with the total outstanding amount, corresponding due dates and expected payment date.”
Again, @rahr-bsg.org is not associated with RahrBSG.
We take the security of our customers and our business relationships seriously and are actively working to address these impersonation attempts.
Thank you for helping us protect our shared information. When in doubt, reach out to us directly. We’re always happy to verify a request before you act on it.
